It Should, but It Doesn't

$4,000.00

I made this quilt with the intention of challenging myself to make things line up. I carefully measured each block the exact same size. I sewed them together. And I realized, perfection is not for me. And then while I was working on it at home, my kids got glitter glue on it. Very imperfect. But that is life. When we’re looking closely, things can feel complicated and overwhelming. When we step back, we’re able to see the beauty in imperfection.

About Improvisational Quilts: I saw a retrospective of the maker/quilter Rosie Lee Tompkins at BAMFA in Berkeley, CA and fell in love. All of her work spoke to me. It was one of the first times outside of the quilts of Gee's Bend that I saw and felt the energy of someone who just needed to make and didn’t abide by any rules. I began quilting without patterns and instead made what felt right..
